What’s in our Wakeboarding bag
This is our "boat bag". It stays packed, sits by the door, and is always ready to go — whether we’re heading to the river or the cable park.
When we first started wakeboarding, we used one of those plastic tubs with the two handles (like lots of people do). They’re handy for wet gear, but I quickly found them awkward to carry — especially when juggling everything else a family needs for a day on the water.
Eventually, we moved to a single bag that could hold both wet and dry gear. I wanted something sturdy, roomy, and easy to throw in the back of the car.
We settled on a Kings canvas duffle bag — and it’s been perfect for us.
What we keep in the boat bag:
First aid kit (must have Stingos and paracetamol)
Strapping tape (thick enough to strap an ankle if it gets wrenched out of a boot)
Sunscreen and zinc (we prefer Cancer Council sunscreen with insect repellent and Invisible Zinc)
Insect repellent
Gloves and wetsuits
A warm boat blanket (we use the Surfinity one for those icy mornings)
Beach towels and a spare change of clothes
A screwdriver — absolutely essential to adjust wake boots
Sometimes a lunchbox or snacks, depending on the day
The best part? It’s all in one place. No last-minute packing panic. No forgotten towels. And at the end of a session, it’s easy to just wrap up the wet stuff, pack it back in, and deal with it when we get home.
Charles is in charge of his own gear — board, life jacket, helmet — and he helps load the car or boat. That bit of responsibility has been great for him too.
Sometimes he’ll head home still wearing his wetsuit, so I just pop the towels and other gear into the boat bag, unpack when we’re home, and reset it for next time.
Honestly, this bag has become part of our rhythm. One less thing to think about when life is already full of training, travel, and everything in between. When Charles asks where something is, I can just answer with - in the boat bag.
If you’re starting out and wondering what to bring or how to manage it all — keeping a dedicated boat bag might be one small thing that makes a big difference.
